Summary:
The Manufacturing Chemist is responsible for improving the quality, productivity, cost, and safety of Manufacturing processes and products through continuous process improvement techniques.
This position also interfaces with the Research & Development and Sales & Marketing functions, and oversees the scale-up, transfer, and optimization of new products into Manufacturing.
Job Duties (General):
1.
Perform process improvement experiments and collect data to support products within assigned area.
Ensure that products and materials are of sufficient quality and quantity to meet production demand.
2.
Document all steps, experiments and/or procedures in process improvement as required and write experience reports detailing experimental design, results and conclusions.
Review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Communicate progress on projects through monthly reports and at staff meetings.
3.
Transfer new products to manufacturing and monitor performance so that processes, quality, documentation, and training can be evaluated and validated.
Train manufacturing personnel on any new procedures, processes, specifications or testing as required.
Work with engineering groups to resolve product quality problems or to improve process efficiency, as requested.
4.
Support Technical Service personnel when dealing with customer inquiries relating to area of expertise.
5.
Practice safe working procedures and follow guidelines specified by the Environmental Health and Safety Department, especially when working in production and laboratory areas.
Understand the safe handling of materials and the quality of processes under the domain of the job responsibilities.
6.
Can compile data from work processes and tests, analyze information, and develop recommendations.
Can monitor equipment and processes and tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.
Able to evaluate technician skills and train employees in their respective processes and edit SOPs.
Participate in JSA activities.
7.
Can lead the technology/discipline/market in assigned area and act as an internal and external consultant in area of expertise.
8.
Significant contribution to the organization based on experience and work.
9.
Ability to help set and drive the strategy for area of expertise.
10.
Can publish internally and externally, including journals and technical guides, and develop seminars.
11.
Ability to review the work of lower level chemists and teach others in assigned area.
12.
Ability to synthesize; and develop methods to synthesize material and validate material was synthesized correctly.
13.
ability evaluate new, non-production formulations and decide if the mix can be made, develop an SOP for them, and train technicians in the process.
14.
Develop procedures to do complex purification of materials and derivatization of raw materials/solutions15.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Duties (HPLC):
1.
Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels and scheduling weekly production.
2.
Interface with technical service and/or equipment support for all related processes/equipment.
Job Duties (Reference Standards):
1.
Answer customer inquiries relating to area of expertise, specifically any call transfers from primary technical service personnel or customer service representatives.
2.
Provide formulation support for new product introduction and troubleshooting initial production batches.
3.
Create new procedures for production of reference standards Ability to troubleshoot and help solve problems that new products may be having as well as troubleshoot and help solve customer issues.
Ability to see where a process can be improved.
Competent and professional image with ability to interact effectively with Research and Development and Engineering.
Can recommend equipment or process changes for area of responsibility.
4.
Formulate mixtures and provide customers with pricing in the form of quotes.
Also solve complex issues a customer may face with certain mixes.
5.
Maintain and recommend improvements to the data base used for housing quotes.
Qualifications Education/
Experience:
o 7-10 years at previous level.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or other related science with at least 10 years of related experience or an advanced science degree with at least 5 years of related experience in a specific area of expertise Recommended Skills Business Process Improvement Chromatography Continuous Production Customer Service Data Collection Design Of Experiments Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
